About Me

My photo
I am a wife to a very supportive hard working husband who puts up with my fabric addiction and a mother of one energetic and silly little boy who constantly asks "Momma, what are you making?" and who absolutely DREADS going to JoAnn's (luckily Momma lets him play games on her phone). My boys are however very sweet to compliment my work and take an interest in it. I have an absolute obsession with SEWING and creating things! I often wonder if I'll ever have enough time to complete ALL of the projects that are stirring around in my head??...Doubtful, but...Here are a few of my latest creations...enjoy!

My little Rayce

So...it's been a VERY long time since I've been on here...

And I'll take all the blame for it because I've been completely
CONSUMED
with KiSsInG and CuDdLiNg my
adorable, sweet, cute, loving
new bundle of JOY
RAYCE CORY SIMMONS

We were blessed with him on Saturday, June 23, 2012
oddly just HOURS before I was scheduled to be induced I went into labor
I woke up around 3am in active labor, contractions were 1-2 minutes apart
I did what any normal woman would do...
I timed them for about 30 minutes
said to myself
"yep, I'm in labor"
and then decided to get ready for the day

I began by straightening my hair...
a completely normal task I do everyday
(keep in mind I'm in LABOR, contractions 1-2 min apart)

I think it took me about a half hour to straighten my hair
I remember thinking to myself
"ok, that contraction just ended so I have about a min to 2 min before I have another one
so I have to straighten as much has as possible before the next one hits"

hahahahaha

needless to say by the time my hair was
done makeup was out of the question

I woke my hubby
(who instantly FREAKED)
"WHAT?! You've been in labor for an HOUR
and you didn't wake me up?!"

"Yes dear, that's correct, because I knew you wouldn't
let me do my hair if I did"

We drove to the hospital about 5am
(I was scheduled for induction at 8am)

My sweet little Rayce was born at 11:10am

Our life has never been any sweeter

We are SO blessed and lucky to have him in our home

(ok, ok, so after I got the epidural I did my makeup)

(PROUD big brother)

SO....
Here are some of the projects I did for my little Rayce...

changing table pad cover and diaper/wipe case cover

John Deere Blanket (with a JD daddy we COULDN'T NOT have one of these)

Quilt for his bed, also made a matching sheet. I still need to applique his initial to the quilt

Personalized Hoodie

Personalized Blanket

There are TONS more projects to post so hopefully next time my little bundle naps I can continue to update the Blog...

hope this will tide you over till then! :)

FINALLY the LoNg awaited QUILT

My sweet aunt Marian and I worked
MANY long hours
on this project

She was kind enough to take a picture of a quilt I saw online
and figure up the pattern for it
(with the loving help of another one of my sweet aunts, Carmel)

Together they figured up the dimensions and yards of fabric needed for this endeavor

It took us about 2 years to completely finish it
BUT
I will say it was completely and utterly, 110%
WORTH it.

I will always cherish this blanket because
not only is it a piece of art
(at least in my eyes)
but it reminds me of the great times
I had with my aunts and my mom
working on this quilt

laughing, eating good food, enjoying one another's company
and just having a good time
(doing what we love best, SEWING!)

So...before I show the pictures of this magnificent quilt I'd just like to give a special THANKS to some of my favorite people who assisted me on this project

My mom
Marian
Carmel

(and I should probably thank my hubby for being so patient with me as I worked countless Saturdays and late nights to complete this project, love you babe!)

SO

DRUMROLL PLEASE

Here it is!!!!!

(we had some communication issues with the quilter
so this minor 'flaw' (dark thread) has yet to be fixed...but I still LOVE it)

For Avrie

I have used this same quilt pattern a few different times now and
I LOVE it
because it's so easy to
personalize and change up

This particular one was made for my niece Avrie

For Trey...

My little nephew
Treygon
LOVES  MiNoNs

Being that he is the 4th child in his family it makes buying him
presents
really hard

...

how many more toys could he actually NEED?

So...since I LOVE making
Pesonalized GIFTS

I had a (what I thought) was a BRILLIANT IDEA!

. . .

I'll make him a
MINON PILLOWCASE
WITH
His name on it!

Carseat Canopy

Found this ADORABLE material at Porter's
(why does their material have to be SO FREAKING ADORABLE??!!)

I'd been debating for a while on making a Carseat Canopy
and finally decided that I might as well make one
(they're so adorable anyway)

This was a really simple project,
especially since I'd made one for friend in the past

The fabric lady at Porters gave me the idea to cover these wooden buttons
they had with FABRIC

WHAT?!
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR

Well when it finally came time to do this I almost became too impatient for the idea
...
I just wanted the project to be done
so I could have the finished product

well after debating for a minute I decided that I should just
cover the dang buttons in the fabric
and
I'm. So. Glad. I. Did.

I can't imagine it being ANY cuter!!!!

I'm sure I won't leave the canopy on there
ALL the time

but at least if I decide I DO want to use it
I'll have an adorable one :)

SERIOUSLY ... could these buttons be ANY cuter?!

Car Seat

This project was something I always VOWED I would do next time I had a baby

Who would have thought that when the time actually came that it would be
INSANELY difficult
to pick out the FABRIC?!

It literally took me WEEKS (and I'm not exaggerating people)
to decide on the colors and order the fabric,
I got it on fabric.com

And even after ordering it I ended up changing my original color scheme layout and went with something a little more neutral
and I'm glad that I did

I do however have one slight confession to make...
I DID NOT make the GRAY part of this carseat
I ordered it online
...
Call me crazy, whimpy, or whatever but for some reason the bottom part of the carseat REALLY intimidated me
and I may decide someday to still tackle it
(after all I still have PLENTY of fabric to do so)

I made the CANOPY and the little STRAP Covers
And it was EASY!
(again, more reason why I'm considering, I said considering, re-doing the bottom part myself)

Diaper Bag & Accessories

I've always wanted to make my own diaper bag
(who doesn't LOVE being original?!)
and now that I actually have a reason to make one I searched online for a free pattern

I was able to find one
(still can't remember exactly how/where I found it!)

I bought all the fabric
wanting to go with something more neutral I decided on
gray and black

The only SuPeR intimidating part of this pattern was the ZIPPER
dun dun DUN

I almost decided to leave it out all together but after lots of encouragement from others
(you know who you are, thanks again!)

I decided to tackle the ever so SCARY ZIPPER!
And I'm pleased to say it really wasn't that hard!

I decided to add a big bow

(after seeing the previous 2 posts I think I might need to confess a recent BOW OBSESSION!)

The pattern called for LOTS ... I mean LOTS of pockets
which in most cases are good

but you'd be surprised to know that I actually
eliminated TWO of the pockets the original pattern called for
...it just seemed too pocketed!!!
(is that even a real word?!)

Anway, here are some pictures of (adorable) the finished diaper bag...

inside pockets

ZIPPER Pocket!!!!

Of course I had to make MATCHING Diaper Bag Accesssories
so here is the
Wipes Case
and the
Changing Pad
I made to match!

Happy Birthday Michelle!

This fabric was on sale for a ScReAmInG deal...
I think $2.50 a yard if I remember right

So I bought a bunch of it and waited to be inspired as to what I should make with it

When my sister Michelle's Birthday approached I figured this would be a
great opportunity to make something more personalized

side note: I LOVE making personalized gifts

I went to my fabric shelf and rediscovered this adorable print

So I decided to alter a previous bag pattern into a smaller purse pattern and
add some cute ribbon on the sides for bows

This bag was SO EaSy
(or should I say SEW EASY lol)

I have dreams of making one for myself
(and already have the fabric I want to make it out of too, it's HOT PINK Corduroy!)

My sister absolutely LOVED it...
I was actually pretty tempted to keep it for MYSELF! :)

sorry the picture quality isn't that great...

For my MOM

This project actually started before Christmas
...but sadly with all the other hectic things going on it didn't get completed until months later
better late than never...right?

When I first saw this material at Home Fabrics
I IMMEDIATELY thought of my mom

...for some reason it just reminded me of something she would like

So I decided to make her a bag out of it

I've used this same bag pattern for other projects but this time decided to add a cute bow
a good choice I think
...

I think it turned out pretty good and my mom loved it :)
so that's all that matters

MORE ZiG zAg

Some of you might remember the black/red/white Zig Zag quilt I made for myself a while ago...

(sneak peak!)

Well my boys were
CoNsTaNtLy STEALING it!

...so for Christmas I decided to make them each their very own
Boy THAT a task!

I was worried I wouldn't get them both done in time
...
in fact
if I remember right, I finished sewing on Christmas Eve!
They opened them just a few short hours later and I think I can honestly say that they
LOVE them

Mission Accomplished!
